The American Belarussian Relief Organization (ABRO) was established in 1991 to reach the people of Belarus. The country is very closed to Christianity and evangelism is illegal. Doing missions work there is very difficult and various U.S. missions organizations have been forced out. ABRO “Brings Missions Home” by giving families the opportunity to host children for 6 weeks over the summer and take part in international missions without having to leave home. Many of the children who come have never heard about God, and would likely have no opportunity to, without coming to America.
MCC is excited to partner with the Gomez family and ABRO in creating space and opportunity for families within the body to host a child from Belarus for 6 weeks over the summer. Brooke Gomez has had Belarussian children in her home growing up since she was 6 years old, and now Brooke and Josh host a child named Dina over the summers in their own home. The Gomez family was approached by ABRO to help grow a Charlotte group, and help get more kids hosted over the summer. There are 125 kids on the waitlist to come to America this year. In addition to creating opportunity for children to come, one of the biggest needs this year is finding a host family for the group's female chaperone, who will accompany the children on their journey and be a guardian for medical appointments.
