Are You a Coddler or a Clinger?

Coddling is to treat tenderly and pamper with kindness. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? I coddle our grandson every moment I can. I am as tender and kind as I can be, with every need he has. That’s what a loving grandparent does. That’s what a kind and loving parent will do for their precious little ones.

A clinger is one who holds together, grasps, or embraces. We may embrace our loved ones, grab one’s hand, or even a good book, and maybe gather together our closest friends and family. You see, a coddler and a clinger can have its positive aspects. I don’t know about you, but I know I have noticed some times I’ve coddled or clung too tightly to things that are unhealthy for my life. There are many times I’ve noticed that I am coddling my fears more than I am clinging to God’s promises. Have you been there? Clinging to life’s reruns & past experiences, or afraid of trying something new, not forging ahead in a different direction for fear of taking a risk, or maybe reflecting on poor choices, and waiting for an answer that doesn’t seem to come.

We tend to coddle our fearful emotions so we don’t break in front of others, instead of clinging to a God who promises never to leave us or forsake us. God wants us to cling to Him and it’s when we begin to allow our faith to drive away our fears that we truly begin to live boldly and courageously to ignite our wonders of His love for us.

Only God can open our ears to hear His still small voice whispering every Promise that awaits us. You see, God promises to teach us how to walk in His promises if we would just cling to Him and His Word!

It’s a balance, right? We must know when and what to coddle and NEVER forget to cling to your Lord, every step of the way.

Are you a coddler or a clinger? You already know what God wants, so you decide!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
- Joshua 1:9
